Sounds disgusting, right? Actually, it was OK. Like every other Japanese cake I’ve ever tasted it was spongy and not-so-sweet but alright. I picked this up at Mitsuwa Market this week end. They had banana and chocolate too but the strawberry box was the cutest. The directions are in Japanese, but if you happen to find this in your local Asian market, just dump the mix into the pan, stir in 3 Tbs milk and set the pan into the box (to steady it) and microwave it for about 1 1/2 minutes. I also found a recipe on Flickr that I haven’t tried yet:

Hello Kitty MiniCakes

110g all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
50g margarine
2 eggs
90g granulated sugar
3 tbs milk
Vanilla extract

1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl
2. Melt margarine in microwave for 50 – 60 seconds
3. Place eggs and sugar in a stainless steel bowl and beat until very pale and thick
4. Add flour mix, margarine, and milk
5. Add ½ tbs of vanilla extract
6. Beat with a whisk until smooth
7. Spoon mix (1 tbs) into mold and bake for 45-50 seconds in microwave
8. Cool before removing from mold

I’m a stupid American so I don’t know what any of those measurements are, but I can figure it out through the power of Google. Anyway, this set was less than $3 and occupied the little girl I nanny for for about a 1/2 hour so it was well worth the small price and zero mess.
