Introducing my Second Cookbook

Pre-sales on my first book, Bake and Destroy: Good Food for Bad Vegans have been so overwhelming that I’m excited to announce I’ve already started work on my second book: Eat Shit and Die!

eat shit and die

Whereas Good Food for Bad Vegans featured 100% vegan party foods like Totchos, Banana Bread French Toast Cupcakes and BBQ Salad, my latest book will send your stomach straight to hell with gut-busting recipes for Extra Mayo Deviled Eggs, Ham-Stuffed French Toast and Gluten-Free Bacon Cupcakes. I created this collection of bland, greasy, depressing recipes for those of you who prefer to snack while crying in the bathtub.

Look for Eat Shit and Die, and for my first book Bake and Destroy: Good Food for Bad Vegans wherever books are sold! (April Fools!)

Social Media All Up In Your Face

First of all, I am writing this on one of the most insane sugar highs I’ve ever had. One possible explanation is that I’m in Las Vegas right now and Retro Bakery delivered a dozen cupcakes to my hotel. I dunno, just a theory.

I got a lot of great suggestions for places to eat while I’m here thanks to my Facebook buddies. I walked down to Wynn/Encore last night because – holy shit – all of their restaurants have vegan options. Also while I was out, a dude with a blow out and a Christian Audigier t-shirt (not even lying) looked me up and down and said, “Niiiiiiiiiiiiice.” A few minutes later two crusty punks told me I’m cute. When I finally got back to the safety of Bally’s a drunk guy in the elevator demanded to know my nationality. So needless to say, I want to go home immediately.

But before I do, I’m speaking at the Social Media Strategies Summit today! Yeah, that’s right. I’m going to talk about how to be good at the Internet and grown people in suits and everything are going to listen to me. (There are not one, but two ermahgerd pictures in my Power Point.) Then, a few days after I get back to Chicago I’m on this panel:

rockit

It’s free, so if you’re in Chicago you should come out and social leverage strategies for synergy disruption with us!

My next adventure is South Beach Wine & Food in just a few weeks, so if you have any suggestions for where a girl can eat some vegetarian food in the Miami Beach area let me know!

Chicago: Join Me for the Health Starts Here Food Fight

What are you doing on Tuesday, July 31st from 6-8pm? Nothing? Then why not stop by the South Loop Whole Foods Whole Lifestyle Center to check out the Health Starts Here Food Fight?

It’s a unique competitive cooking event where three Health Starts Here Food Fight finalists will present their own appetizer, entrée and dessert for you to try.  After tasting the dishes of all three contenders (nine total small plates), you (and a celebrity panel) will vote on who will be South Loop’s winning chef for the year! Goodie bags will also be provided for all attendees. Space is limited. Must sign up here or at customer service in advance. It’s only $20 per person! (All nine dishes are meat and dairy free – one dish does have a dairy and non-dairy option. Some dishes do contain honey.)

See you there!

How’s Your News – May 2012 Updates

Hey! Here’s a quick round-up of news, events and other things I have coming up.

Cooking Channel Kelsey Nixon Natalie Slater Bake and DestroyFirst of all, the Cupcake Provocateur custom apron contest has officially closed! Cynthia and I are reviewing the entries and will be posting the top 5 for you to vote on next week. Don’t forget – one random voter will receive a prize from Cupcake Provocateur just for voting, so it’s worth the two seconds it will take you to do so!

My company Greyslater is vending at the Randolph Street Market on May 26th & 27th. There should be a lot of cool, indie stuff for sale including our Made in the USA, eco-friendly wares so if you’re in Chicago come check us out!

On May 31st I’ll be on the panel of judges for Whole Foods’ “Health Starts Here Food Fight” – a healthy cooking competition. Three cook off finalists will be preparing dishes and you can come join in the tasting! Check out Whole Foods Lincoln Park for the details!

I received a tentative date for my premiere appearance on the Cooking Channel! Tune into The Perfect 3 on July 14 to watch me make Vegan Banana French Toast Cupcakes along with host Kelsey Nixon!

I just agreed to serve my third consecutive term as a mighty, mighty Threadcakes judge! Check out this video from my first year as judge – and follow Threadcakes on Twitter to find out when the competition kicks off!

Once in a while I come across a company I’m super stoked on – like Betty Turbo or Lucky Cupcake Hairclips or Seibei. Well, it just so happens that I am currently stoked on two new companies, so here’s a little bit about them. (Nope, these are not paid testimonials. These are my actual opinions on brands I actually discovered & love.)

Rad Nails pizza nail decalsRad Nails – This totally radical nail sticker company is the brainchild of my college pal Chrissy. She’s currently an Assistant Editor at MTV, and she’s always flossing the craziest nail art. You can probably guess which set of stickers I ordered – and no, it’s not the Ryan Gosling set. Anyway check it out because it’s gonna blow up!

Credit for this discovery goes to my husband Tony – Aframes Eyewear. Not only are their frames super cute, but they also donate 5% from each sale to Helen Keller International which helps to fund the manufacturing and distribution of vitamin A supplements in 22 countries. Vitamin A Deficiency is the number one cause of childhood blindness – so your purchase of  retro-style frames from Aframes helps to combat preventable and treatable blindness all over the world.

So that’s my story! Bye!
