The winner, and new SugarSlam Champion of the world…

…is Dr. Jennifer Kovach with her Vanilla Pepsi Punkcakes! Congratulations to you, Jenn! You’ve won, as promised, the one-of-a-kind autographed Bake and Destroy photo book, a set of classic wrestling-themed cupcake toppers and whatever other fun things I decide to mail you!

Now, before you all start booing and throwing your popcorn at me, I remind you that CM Punk himself judged this little bake-off. In fact, I have a statement from him about how he chose the winner:

Jenn wins!
It was tough…but I knew all along really. Its totally no fair but that’s life right? Jenn wasn’t the only one who capitalized on the fact that she knew who was judging the SugarSlam, but she did it the best. Sneaky. In a nut shell, Jenn is a heel.
Us born heels stick together. She somehow knew my hatred of frosting and used it against all of you. No faaaaair! But I love it. Fight dirty Dr. Jenn, fight dirty! As for the rest….man. Awesome stuff from everybody honestly. It would’ve been a different ballgame if I got to taste the entries. Maybe next time? Honorable mentions go out to the Flair cupcakes and Hitman cookies. Such rad creativity. Oh! And Bad News brownies……Jesus is that awesome.
Now, I must get back to not sleeping, working out too much and being champion of the world…

And now for the winning recipe, as written by the SugarSlam champ:

  • 2 cans of pepsi – reduced to one
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 cup sugar

For the glaze… I was a slacker and didn’t measure anything. I put some powdered sugar in a bowl and added soy milk until it was thick and glazy. And I added some royal blue color color and a touch of vanilla.

Glob some glaze on. Add one championship belt.

In your face, directions! Who needs measuring and instructions anyway? How do you reduce two cans of Pepsi? Who fuckin’ knows? Either way she won and you didn’t!

I’ll also be mailing a little something out to the honorable mentions in Punk’s statement, but seriously- thank you to everyone who entered, this was so fun!

In totally unrelated news, I made Obama cupcake toppers tonight because I hate, hate, hate John McCain so here they are. Download the .pdf, print them on cardstock and campaign away! I also made some condom toppers I’ll be selling on Etsy, all proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood, which is in serious danger should Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living get elected.

SugarSlam Entries!

There are probably a lot of people who wish they were CM Punk, but tonight I am not one of them. Not only because I don’t think I could stand to shave my legs nearly as often as he has to, but because I would not want to have to choose a favorite out of the totally sweet entries we got for SugarSlam. Honestly, I was surprised to only get one Punk-themed entry. But then, I didn’t advertise the fact that he was judging to prevent getting nothing but that sort of thing.

I know my sister Nina will be excited to see two Bret Hart entries, each one as hot pink and 80′s sextastic as the man himself. (I once penned a letter to WWF Magazine demanding that he appear on every single cover.) I personally was psyched to get a Ric Flair entry but a little sad that no one made a Rowdy Roddy Pie-per. Maybe next time.

So, Raw is in Chicago tonight and I think you know who the hometown crowd is going to be cheering for. In honor of deep dish pizzas, Ditka and hot dogs sans ketchup, I present to you the SugarSlam contestants. Punk should be choosing a winner this week and I’ll post that recipe when he does.

Thanks to everyone who entered and start thinking of your own rasslin’ themed desserts for Sugar Slam II!

First up, You bet Your Sweet Ass Cookies from Jenni Jones. Never before have I ever wanted to eat wrestling trunks. Thanks, Jenni!

These little mamas are Honky Tonk-tastic Cupcakes from Jenna Redel-Reed. Dang.

From Adriana Marroquin we have these awesome Bret Hart cookies! I would totally put any of you in a Sharp Shooter for one of these!

On that note, Lindsay “Bunny” Joines entered Bret the Hitman’s Chocolate Raspberry Hart-Attack!

Venus invites you to try her Undertaker Tombstone Cake… if you dare!

If that doesn’t kill you, Bianca’s Deadman’s Cupcake just might

If I were judging, my vote might have to go to Ami Attee’s Custom Made Cupcakes because she compared the coconut to his fluffy white hair and even made them vegan in honor of the Nature Boy!

Speaking of vegan, it just wouldn’t be a bake-off without something from The Urban Housewife. So why not take a bite out of this British Bulldog’s Custard Berry Tart with Biscuit Crust?

Tanya B. was the very first to enter with her I Love Wrestling Blueberry Muffins!

Who does a girl have to smackin the face with a chair to get a bite of Kari’s Rey Mysterio Jr. Cherry Jalapeno Cup Cake?

May I present to you Dr. Jenn’s Vanilla Pepsi Punkcakes, created with the knowledge that CM Punk hates frosting, but loves Pepsi.

And finally, three last-minute entries from lee Rebel. Pepsi Plunge Shooter Cakes:

and Piper vs. Bad News Brownies:

You guys all did awesome, leave comments about your favorites and stay tuned for the winner of my first ever Sugar Slam!!! (Thanks, Punk.)

One of my fondest childhood memories is of my cousin Mikey putting his younger brother Josh in a Boston Crab. As Josh screamed and pounded on the carpeted floor Mikey calmly explained the importance of foot position to all of his wide-eyed little cousins. One by one we would slide off the couch and submit to Mikey’s Sharpshooters and Stinger Splashes, happy to have learned something, and also to be able to walk away with our spines still intact. Mikey actually went on to be a pretty successful high school wrestler and I went on to be a pretty rabid wrestling fan until I turned 14 and decided it was “too fake.” (I have to laugh now because when I was a kid I totally bought into wrestlers who were voodoo priests and tycoons. Then all of the sudden in high school when more “regular guy” characters like Stone Cold start popping up I deem the whole thing fake and move on.) Ah, whatever. My mom was never too excited about buying me issues of WWF Magazine at the grocery store anyway.

So here I am, so many years later, baking and destroying and still talking about Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat to anyone who will listen. Which usually is no one. A few weeks ago I made a photo book and a lot of you asked me how you could get your hands on one. Well, the thing is, there is only one (like the Highlander, but without the Queen soundtrack). So I decided I should have a contest- the winner gets my book. Big deal, right? Well, up yours, dear reader because it is a big deal. See, this contest happens to be SugarSlam! the sweetest wrestling-themed bake-off on the entire Internet and the prize happens to be a one-of-a-kind Bake & Destroy photo book autographed by the WWE heavyweight champion, CM Punk. Yeah. In your face, other baking contests!

I bet you want to enter. Well, here’s the rules:

Create a wrestling-themed dessert that entertains me and you win.

Um, that’s all. I don’t really like rules.

I guess I’ll elaborate. It could be as simple as Koko B. Ware Rice Krispie Treats or as abstract as Roddy Piper Coconut Ice Cream (you know, because of that time he clonked Jimmy Snuka over the head with a coconut) if it’s sugary and wrestling-themed it’s eligible. I will admit I haven’t watched much rasslin’ since ’94, so I might have to consult with Punk about modern WWE entries, but no worries, I’ll figure it out.

Your recipe doesn’t have to be original, but please credit the recipe’s author in your entry. E-mail your recipe, the recipe title, a jpeg of the finished dessert and your name and address to me at by August 15th. The winning entry will receive the autographed book, 12 one-of-a-kind wrestling cupcake decorations and their dessert posted right here on Bake and Destroy!

If you have questions about the contest please post them as a comment so other readers can benefit from the answers. If you’re having trouble remembering much about your secret days as a wrestling fan check out these sites:
